Fire Agate is thought to have been discovered in the year 1966 by Miguel de Loera, a miner,
in the town of Calvillo, from the state of Aguascalientes in northern México.    (...a bit of local Calvillo folklore...)

Fire agate is a magical and brilliant colored gem stone that is found only in a few states in northern Mexico (Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi, Chihuahua) and in the state of Arizona and California in the United States. Fire agate or 'agata de fuego' as it is called in Spanish is commonly found in bright golden colors of fire, with more rare multicolored fire and a variety of fire configurations of different size fire bubbles in a chalcedony quartz mixture that varies from brown, to clear, to the much sought after black or 'negrita' color.

This website was created with the help of "Matlachin" and a couple other local miners, dedicated to all of the Calvillo miners 'mineros' who spend their lives climbing the Sierra Mountain range and digging away at a living that just barely feeds their families. But, with the hope of finding a true 'imperial' quality fire agate gem that can bring them thousands of pesos (if cut and polished properly) is forever in their minds, each and every day of their life.
